Frequently Asked Questions about Multicategories Component for Joomla!2.5

  • How to add articles to categories?
  • Actually there are 2 ways:
  1. For those who wants to add several articles to one category. In the Administrator Section go to Components->Multicategories->Categories to display the List of the categories you have. Click on any Category to edit its data or create a new one using "New" button in the toolbar. Right above the "Description" field you should see a select list where all your articles are displayed. Choose an article for the Category by clicking on the article title. Use Ctrl-Click combination to select more than one article or to deselect the article that have been already selected. If it's a new Category don't forget to enter a title for it. Save your Category data by clicking on the "Save" button in the toolbox.
  2. For those who wants to add one article to several categories. Go to article and open it for editing. Click Multicategories button located under the editor block (the list of the Multicategories should appear). Select as many categories as you want (of course you can use Ctrl+Click) and click Select button in the top right corner (the list of the Multicategories should disappear). Save your article.
  • How to assign a single article to several categories?
  • Here is step by step instructions:
  1. Assign article (C) to Category (A). Go to Components->Multicategories->Categories. Choose some Category (A) that you want your article (C) to be assigned to. Click on the Category (A) title to enter the Edit Mode. In the "Articles" field choose the article (C) which you want to assign to the current Category (A) and save the Category (A) by clicking on "Save" button.
  2. Assign article (C) to Category (B). Choose another Category (B) and click on its title to edit the content. In the "Articles" field find the article (C) that you've just assigned to the previous Category (A) and select it to assign to the current Category (B). Save the Category (B) by clicking on "Save" button.
  3. Create Multicategories menu item for Category (A). Go to Menu->Your menu->Add New Menu Item. In "Menu Item Type" field press "Select" button and choose Multicategories->Category Blog (or Category List) menu type. Set menu title in "Menu Title" field. Then in "Required Settings" slide panel on the right choose your Category (A) in the "Choose a category" dropdown list. Save your menu item.
  4. Create Multicategories menu item for Category (B). Create another menu item just like you did in previous step but now choose Category (B) in the "Choose a category" dropdown list. Save menu item.
  5. Now go to your site front page and click on menu item created for Category (A), then click on one created for Category (B). If you did it right you should see your article (C) displayed in both Categories (A and B).
  • Why I can't see my article in category?
  • The most common problem is that you chose WRONG MENU ITEM TYPE. If you use Multicategories Component you must create menu items of Multicategories/Category Blog or Multicategories/Category List in order to see your articles which were assigned via Multicategories
